What a wonderful week we have had in Year 2! The children have utterly wowed us with the way theĀ represented the school and themselves on our trip to Burghley House. Many members of the public passed on their compiments for the children’s beautiful behaviour throughout the day- a big well done everyone!! Since the visit, the children have embraced learning, challenged themselves and worked so hard! We hope the children are proud of the super learning they have done.
In English, the children have drafted a few more poems for their anthologies, focussing on personification and similes. The children relished these challenges and have produced poems of amazing quality. Look at these wonderful examples of some children’s writing!!

In Maths, we built on our exploration of measure, this week concentrating on mass. We used balance scales to compare the weights of different objects and foud their mass using cubes. We moved our learning on by reading scales that use grams and used these to compare different objects. We then began to consider when grams or kilograms would be more appropriate- would you weigh an apple in kilograms? What about an elephant? Here are some practice sheets to explore at home: Blog
In STEM, we have continued our unit on Habitats.
In Geography, we explored how lifestyles in Cambridge compare with the Kenyan grasslands.
Next week
English: we will continue our poetry unit. We will write three bonus poems using our senses, verbs and adjectives. We will then begin to edit our favourite poems for publishing.
Maths: we will be explorig capacity.
Computing: we will meet ‘Dash’ (our new robots) and find out what it can do!
STEM: we will be continuing our unit on habitats.
Thank you for a wonderful week. Have a restful and relaxing weekend.
Warmest wishes,
The Year Two Team.
