What a wonderful week we have had in Year 2!
In English, we have been learning about the past tense and focusing on powerful language. We have used this learning to write a variety of brilliant setting descriptions, with a focus on describing our senses. At the end of the week the children wrote a setting description based on the book ‘The Journey’ as part of their writing showcase and these have been proudly displayed in our classrooms. What wonderful writers we have in Year 2!
In Maths, we have been learning about the mathematical principles behind finding 10 more and 10 less of a number. We have been linking this to our knowledge on place value and have enjoyed exploring the concept through a variety of practical investigations. We have attached the Maths sheets for the week (Maths sheets).
In Topic, we have been helping with the designing of the inner circle. After a briefing from Dr. Biddulph, the children discussed what they would like the space to be used for and planned their designs.
In Phonics, we have been learning about the different spellings of the /oo/ sound (oo as in cook, u as in put and oul as in could).
In PE we have been working on different types of jumps. We have attached a challenge for at home (PE challenge).
Next week:
In Maths, we are going to look at addition and subtraction. We are going to work on increasing our fluency and will build up to designing and creating our own Maths games.
In English, we are going to be writing winter poems. We will be looking at a variety of different poem styles and picking our favorite to help us write our own.
In Topic, we will be having a special Fire of London inspired TastEd lesson.
Key notices:
On Monday it is Christmas Jumper day. The children will also be having a Christmas lunch.
