We have had a glorious week in Year 2. The children returned from half term refreshed and ready for a week full of super learning. We launched our new project for this half term: we are going to be exploring the physical and human geography of the Fenlands and the Kenyan Grasslands. The children thrilled us this week with the way that they were able to locate the United Kingdom, Cambridge and Kenya. They were able to talk about where these places are in relation to the Equator and make suggestions about how this may cause different weather patterns.

During our English sessions, we explored the story ‘Mama Miti’. In this story we saw how people can make a positive impact on the environment by making small changes. The children took part in a debate about whether more trees should be planted on the field in Eddington. The were able to build compelling arguments for and against- super work everyone!

In Maths we have been exploring the 5 and 10 times tables. We spotted the link between these two times tables and used our knowledge to reason and problem solve. Here are a couple of the worksheets we used this week: Maths sheets wk 2

Next week

English: we will be writing letters to persuade

Maths: we will be focusing on sharing into equal groups and introducing the divide sign

Phonics: we will be working on /ue/ as in /ue/ – argue, fuel /ew/ – few, knew /u/ – unit, bugle /u_e/ – tune, use

Geography: we will be concentrating on exploring the physical features of the Fenlands and creating our own factfiles.

Thank you Year 2 for a super week!

Warmest wishes,

The Year 2 team.
