Year 2 have had a wonderful week and we have been blown away with their creativity and dedication to learning.

English

In English, we have continued looking at the book ‘Journey’. We have used the book as a stimulus to write free verse poetry and the creativity has been wonderful! Children imagined themselves as different objects and used adjectives and verbs to make their writing interesting. We also worked on oracy skills and the children built up to performing their poems. In phonics we have been looking at different ways to make the /e/ sound.

Maths

In Maths, we have been looking at addition when bridging 10. We have focused on using different representations to show this: part-part-whole models and tens frames. This is a tricky concepts but the children are doing wonderfully! To insure fluency, we started with lots of practical application of skills using resources before going on to written methods. We have attached this weeks independent activities that were completed in lesson. Maths Sheets Week 4.

Topic

In Topic, we have continued learning about Christopher Columbus in History. We have been using the school  values to discuss our opinions on him. In Science, we have been learning about the seasons and have adopted a tree that we will be monitoring for the year. In TastEd we explored citrus fruit.

Next week:

In English, we are going to be looking at the book ‘Little Boat’. We are going to use the book to create our own journey, developing story structure and writing setting descriptions.

In Maths, we will continue to look at bridging 10. Consolidating our confidence using the part-part-whole and tens frame and looking at using numbers lines and equations to shown our thinking.

In Science, we are doing a shadow investigation and looking a the difference between night and day around the world. In Topic, we are looking at maps and will be creating our own!

In PE, we will be focusing on personal skills and developing our footwork skills. You can practice these by logging in with your class account: https://real.jasmineactive.com/home/themes/bike.  Please ask us if you are unsure of the login details.
