What a super week we have had in Year 2! The children have utterly wowed us with the way they have embraced opportunities to learn this week. The children have continued to love everything OPAL has brought to their lunchtimes! All in all the children have embraced learning, challenged themselves and worked so hard! We hope the children are proud of the super learning they have done.

In English, we have had a week dedicated to sentence level work. The children began with extending simple sentences using the conjunctions and, but, so. Next they explored adding extra information using the subordinating conjunctions because, when, if. Finally, they discovered the importance (and power) of using precise word choices.

In Maths, we built on our exploration of shape, this week concentrating on 3D shapes. We recapped the names of common 3D shapes- we even went on a hunt for real life examples around school. We also spent time exploring the faces and edges of different 3D shapes.  Here are some practice sheets to explore at home: Blog

In STEM, we have continued our unit on Habitats.

Next week

We are very excited to announce that next week, we will have a special Shakespeare week focusing on ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’- we are very much forward to this enrichment week and all the wonderful opportunities for learning it will bring!

English: we will write poetry inspired by a magical forest

Maths: we will be exploring time.

Computing: we will meet ‘Dash’ (our new robots) and find out what it can do!

STEM: we will be continuing our unit on habitats.

As the weather is getting warmer, please remember to send your child to school with a hat and sun cream!

Thank you for a wonderful week. Have a restful and relaxing weekend.

Warmest wishes,

The Year Two Team.
