…And what a wonderful week it has been! The children have returned to school with so much enthusiasm and lots of super ideas. We have launched our new project for this half term. We are exploring conservation, with a particular focus on the Polar Regions. We will e exploring some of the issues facing the animals that live in these places and question what we can do to make a positive difference. The children have already shown passion for this theme!

During our English lessons we have been focusing on ‘Zoo’ by Anthony Browne. We began by exploring the book and writing about a day in the life of one of the animals. We then considered the difference between cages and enclosures and wrote powerful questions to make our readers think. Finally we wrote a speech in role as a tiger in the zoo to convince the keepers to give us a better quality of life.

During Maths we have been finding one more and one less than any 2-digit number. We have been representing numbers using dienes, part-part-whole models, number lines and equations.

Next week

English: we will be writing our own poetry based on ‘Recipe to Make a Wolf’

Phonics: we will be exploring the spelling <y> (yes, sky, bunny, mystery)

Maths: we will be reasoning and problem solving using one more/one less

Science: we will be exploring microhabitats

Geography: we will identifying different climate zones

Thank you for a super week full of joyful learning!

Warmest wishes,

The Year Two Team
