We are very proud of our Year two children and what an incredible week of learning!

History: Timelines –Our timeline of trailblazers is growing, as children added more remarkable figures who have shaped the world with their courage and determination. These discussions have sparked meaningful conversations about overcoming challenges and leaving a positive mark on history, inspiring the children to reflect on their own potential to be trailblazers in the future.

English:
In English, the children have been working on their poems, looking at different areas of nature and how they can be described.

Math: Math lessons this week have centered on place value and reinforcing the concept through various hands-on activities. Using part-part-whole models, number lines and comparison exercises, the children have been practicing how to break down and compare numbers with increasing confidence. Maths W4 worksheets

Phonics:
In Phonics, we’ve continued to focus on the /ae/ sound. Through a variety of fun activities, children are becoming more skilled at identifying and using this sound in their reading and writing. It’s wonderful to see their progress already!                                                                            /ay/    /ai/    /ea/    /a-e/                     /ei/       /ey/     /eig/       /eigh/    /aigh/     /a/                                 day     drain   break   quake               vein        they          eight     straight    apron

Key messages

Reading Folders: If anyone still has any colour reading folder from last year, could they please return them to their class teacher. Thank you.

Reading books: Reading books will go out this week. They are read over two weeks. Some children will have reading folders, we are looking to order more. Thank you for your patience.

Please make sure these are returned on the morning of Thursday 1st October. The phonics books relate to the spellings we have been learning in class so please use them for any spelling practice alongside the reading.

Your child will be given their new phonics book once the old one is returned. A gentle reminder that lost books will incur a fine of £5.00.

Family photos

We are busy creating our new class family boards for the year and would love a family photo from each family to put on display. Please can you send your child in with a:

– photograph or alternatively email this to enquires.

– photo or drawing of a club/ extra curriculum activity.

– celebration of your home language.

PE Kit and School Uniform

Some children have lost jumpers and PE kit, it is really helpful if children’s items of clothing are clearly labelled. Thank you for your help.

Helping your child learn English

UCPS is an amazingly multilingual school, and we love celebrating the incredible languages our children speak. In fact, we discovered this week that throughout the school, more than 30 different languages are spoken!

However, we know that when children arrive with limited English, it can be an overwhelming experience, and we want to help parents and carers support their children in their English learning.

Please follow the link below to view our guide to helping your children learn English. There are lots of tips and links for you to explore. Please ask us if you need any help or support and check the website for resources and blogs to help you and your child.
