Wow- this week has FLOWN by! We have been very impressed with all the children across all three classes. We have been focusing on the ‘Heart and the Bottle’ by Oliver Jeffers. The children demonstrated an awareness of the range of emotions that the central character in the story might have felt upon discovering the empty chair. We applied our knowledge of contractions such as couldn’t/didn’t/wouldn’t when we wrote in role as the girl- ‘I tried tipping the bottle upside down but the heart didn’t move.’ We have been thinking of lots of creative solutions for the little girl’s problem- we were impressed with the imaginative responses that the children gave.
In Maths we have demonstrated our knowledge of the 5x table in solving a rather tricky problem around branches and leaves- very impressive work! We then moved on to begin learning our 3x table- why don’t you challenge your children to perform our ‘rolling threes’ chant: Team, team good as gold, let me see your fingers roll the threes…
Our Topic work challenged us to think about the emotions created by listening to different pieces of music. We listened to different genres of music and then we made different marks to represent our feelings, some wonderful art work has been created by the wonderful children in Skylarks, Swifts and Robins!
Next week:
English- creating our own ‘heart in a…’ stories
Maths- division by sharing and grouping
Topic- exploring life in the Sixties and discovering more about The Beatles
Thank you to all the Year Two children for a super week,
Miss Lang, Miss Ellis, Mrs Sharman and the rest of the Year Two team.
