What an exciting first week back! It was Diwali and many children shared the celebrations they had at home with the class.
We started exploring our new topic: the Great Fire of London and did a virtual journey through London. This is the link we used in case you want to explore or let the children tell you all about the important landmarks in London: http://360.visitlondon.com/#
English:
We learned about time connectives (first, then, next, finally) and why these are important for recounts.
We also learned how to use apostrophes for possession: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zvwwxnb/articles/zx9ydxs
Maths:
In Maths we learned about subtraction through 10 strategy. This will help us with mental arithmetic.
Science:
We explored different materials and their properties. We went on an investigation around the school to see all the materials we could find.
Topic:
We looked at historical sources about the Great Fire of London and discussed how they help us learn about the past.
PE: this half-term we are developing our social skills and focusing on jumping and landing. You can practise these using your home Jasmine logins and focusing on the space theme: https://real.jasmineactive.com/home/themes/space
Phonics:
We focused on diffrent spellings of the /er/ sound: er, ir, ur, or. Some words we practised reading and writing: curb, perch, skirt, word, turn, first, girl, shirt, verb, world, worst.
Phonics support:
Many of you have been asking us for ways to support your child with phonics at home. Here is a link to a free course for parents based on the Sounds Write programme we use in school: https://www.udemy.com/course/help-your-child-to-read-and-write/
Next week’s learning:
English: we will be writing recounts using the Queen’s Hat as stimulus. https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips-video/english-ks1-ks2-how-to-write-a-recount/z7dg92p
Maths: we will be continuing our learning about subtraction focusing on subtraction as difference.
