Year 2 have had a brilliant last week of the half term!
In Topic, we have been exploring kindness and using this as inspiration for poem writing. We have been linking this to our RE lessons and PSHE lessons. For our final Topic lesson, we have written a Thank you letter to the NHS, inspired by out Paramedic visit. These letters are going to be given to staff at Addenbookes Hospital.
In English, we have been looking at the book “The day the crayons quit”. We have been using the book to focus on personification and letter writing. We looked at different types of letters and their purposes and at the end of the week wrote a reply letter to the crayons. The children loved the book and really connected with the story.
In Maths, we have been focusing on subtraction with regrouping. Pupils are becoming more confident in both their subtraction, and their understanding of regrouping in Maths. It has been great to see the children carry through and apply their learning from last week!
In Art, we have been adding the final additions to our sculptures. With classes focusing on medals and buttons. The sculptures are looking fantastic and we cannot wait for them to be displayed in the learning street after half term.
After half term:
We will be launching our new topic – The Dark Side. Pupils will be learning about dark and light in a variety of different mediums and have some fantastic books around which the learning will be based!
In Topic we are going to be looking at stereotypes and celebrating differences.
In English, we are going to be revisiting sentence structure and highlighting the importance of punctuation and exciting vocabulary. We will also be consolidating the learning of the previous term and introducing children to the book ‘The Dark’. For spelling, we will be looking at the ‘ed’ past tense suffix.
In Maths, we will be exploring shape. We will be focusing on 2D and 3D shapes, learning their properties and applying our mathematical problem solving skills in various challenges.
We have had an amazing first term back! We want to thank and congratulate you and your children for such a smooth start to the school year, especially in light of such unprecedented circumstances. We hope you all have an enjoyable, well deserved break and we look forward to welcoming you back after half term. Thank you again for your continued support!
Have a lovely break,
The Year 2 Team.
