In English, year 2 had an unexpected visitor this week, Mr Wolf. He explained what really happened with the three little pigs and we are going to share his story with the world. To do this, children have used past tense verbs and adjectives. Next week, we will focus on co-ordinating conjunctions.
In phonics, our focus sound this week and next week is /d/ and we continue to review different ways to build the /ay/ sound. To support this learning, please read this text with your children: Claude and Jedd Play. To support your children’s reading fluency, please keep enjoying Bear’s Fears.
In maths, we have been ordering and comparing numbers using number lines and symbols for less than, greater than and equal to. Ask your children if they can explain what boundaries are on a number line and how to find the midpoint.
In history, the children have been introduced to historical sources to learn about Neil Armstrong and the moon landing. Can they tell you the difference between a primary and a secondary source? Next week, we will be comparing aspects of the Apollo 11 and Endeavour space missions.
In STEM, year 2 have investigated the hypothesis smooth materials are the stretchiest to recommend a material to make swimming costumes from.
Phonics books will be changed next week on Friday 6th October.
All classes have PE on Fridays. Please ensure your child has a complete kit that includes: black or navy blue shorts and jogging bottoms or leggings, a plain white t-shirt, navy blue jumper or hoodie and trainers.
We are lucky to have forest school this half term in year 2.
Robins – Monday
Swifts – Tuesday
Skylarks – Thursday
Please ensure your child has a forest school kit in on those days that includes: warm clothing, waterproofs and a change of shoes (ideally wellies or sturdy shoes).
The school provides all children in KS1 with fruit or vegetables. However, please do send your child in with an extra healthy snack if you wish but this must contain no nuts.
Thank you for your lovely family photos which are now displayed on our family board. We would now ask that every child now brings a photo or drawing of their favourite book, hobby or their favourite place. Please can these be brought in by Friday 6th October.
