PLEASE NOTE: On Thursdays, please can all children in Year 2 be sent into school in clothing that they can wear for PE. Children will stay in this clothing throughout the day, so please ensure that the clothing is appropriate winter attire and also in line with the school PE kit requirements.

We have had another wonderful week in Year 2 this week! As part of our English learning, we have been preparing to write instructions on how to trap a mischievous dragon. We have been learning about using imperative verbs and time adverbials in order write a coherent set of chronological instructions.

In Maths, we have been continuing with addition, but this week moving onto addition with regrouping, representing this using methods such as dienes and column method.

For our History lesson this week, we have been continuing with our Monarchy project, learning all about the reign of King John and the Magna Carta, exploring how he has been depicted throughout history and contemplating the power of a monarch.

In PE, we have been learning about balancing on a line, walking forwards and backwards whilst doing so.

We have also been doing activities related to Lunar New Year – including creating our very own origami rabbits!

Next week:

English: we will be continuing with our instruction writing.

Maths: we will be working on subtracting without regrouping.

Phonics: we will explore the spellings of /ie/.

History: we will examine and ask questions about depictions of monarch in art work.

PE: we will continue with balancing on a line.

Art: we will continue our sessions with Mrs Smith, working on portraits relating to our Monarchy project.

Well done to all of the children for another fantastic week of learning!

Very best wishes,

The Year 2 Team.
