Wuao! Another fantastic week in Year 2!

This week has been full of exciting learning experiences and the children have truly embraced every moment. One of the highlights was during our Forest School session, where the rain added a magical touch to the day. As the children ventured into the quietness of the forest, they took a moment to simply listen—many of them remarked how the sound of the raindrops felt like music, a soothing symphony created by nature itself. Their ability to connect so deeply with their surroundings was a beautiful reminder of the power of outdoor learning.

History: Our timeline of trailblazers is growing, as children added more remarkable figures who have shaped the world with their courage and determination. These discussions have sparked meaningful conversations about overcoming challenges and leaving a positive mark on history, inspiring the children to reflect on their own potential to be trailblazers in the future.

English:
In English, the children have been working  on their traditional stories with a twist. They’ve now completed the second and third pages of their stories and it’s been wonderful to see their creativity flourish! With a strong focus on using descriptive adjectives and adverbs.

Math:
Math lessons this week have centered on place value and reinforcing the concept through various hands-on activities. Using part-part-whole models, number lines and comparison exercises, the children have been practicing how to break down and compare numbers with increasing confidence.

Phonics:
In Phonics, we’ve continued to focus on the /ae/ sound. Through a variety of fun activities, children are becoming more skilled at identifying and using this sound in their reading and writing. It’s wonderful to see their progress already!

Key messages
Reading books: please make sure these are returned on 11th October . The phonics books relate to the spellings we have been learning in class so please use them for any spelling practice alongside the reading.
Please make sure you return books on the day. You will incur a £5 fine if this isn’t returned. Your child will be given their new phonics book once the old one is returned.
PE days: all classes have PE on Mondays. Please ensure your child has a complete kit that includes: black or navy blue shorts and jogging bottoms or leggings, a plain white t-shirt, navy blue jumper or hoodie and trainers.
Forest school
We are lucky to have forest school this half term in year 2.

Swifts – Monday
Skylarks – Thursday
Please ensure your child has a forest school kit in on those days that includes: warm clothing, waterproofs and a change of shoes (ideally wellies or sturdy shoes).
Snacks
The school provides all children in KS1 with fruit or vegetables. However, please do send your child in with an extra healthy snack if you wish but this must not contain  nuts.
Family photos
We are busy creating our new class family boards for the year and would love a family photo from each family to put on display. Please can you send your child in with a:
