This half term is flying by!

We were extremely lucky to attend a performance of Midsummer Night’s Dream on Monday. It was brilliant to recap the story again as we knew the plot and the characters!

In our geography lesson this week we made our own dykes! We learnt about two ways the Fenlands have been drained: by wind pumps and by digging dykes. We found it very interesting that eels have lived in the Fens for hundreds of years and were even used as currency to build Ely Cathedral!

In English, we have been writing our own fables with a moral. We have focused on using commas for lists and possessive apostrophes. Please find two BBC links here to learn more:  commas for lists  possessive apostrophes

In maths, we learnt about division this week and how it can be sharing or grouping. Later in the week, we made connections between multiplication and division. Maths Sheets Week 3

In STEM, we are growing our own beans in class! We are conducting an experiment to see what happens to the germination of the bean if we remove either water, warmth or sunlight. Watch this space! We also learnt about hydroponic farming and where in the world this might be useful.

Key messages:
Egg box and yogurt pots plea!
Thank you for bringing in the plastic bottles – it enhanced the geography learning this week! We now have another science plea… If you have any egg boxes or clean yoghurt pots, please could you bring these into school ready for our science lesson next week? Thank you in advance!
Spellings
We have done a spelling test of the first 100 words with the children this week. Their test will be returned to you so you can practice any spellings they have not yet secured. The list they were tested on is here.
If your child has mastered these words please see the next 200 words here.
Reading books: We have changed your child’s reading book today. Please make sure these are returned on Thursday 28th March ready to be changed for the holidays.
Please make sure you return books on the day. You will incur a £5 fine if this isn’t returned. Your child will be given their new phonics book once the old one is returned.
PE: Please make sure that PE kits are in school each week and that kits are the correct PE kit for school: white t-shirt, blue or black jumper, blue or black shorts/jogging bottoms/leggings, spare socks and trainers.
