What a great week of learning in Year 2!
Maths
We focused on addition with 3 addends and learned all about the commutative and associative laws.
Here are the sheets if you want further practice: Maths independent sheets
Reading
We have enjoyed having our Year 5 friends come and read with us: it is a lovely way to build a reading community and the Year 2 children are responding really well.
English
In English, we continued our learning about lists, labels and captions and had a go at reinventing our own version of the book The Journey. We also started our phonics sessions and worked on the different ways to spell the sound /ae/: ay, ai, ea, a-e.
Science
In science we started our learning about the seasons and different weather types. We dressed up teddies and also went to adopt a tree that we will follow throughout the year.
In TastEd we focused on touch and tried different types of cabbages. We had some lovely comments from the children like: “It feels and tastes like popcorn”
Key information:
- Please could all children have their PE kits in school with the appropriate shoes.
- Please could all children bring a water bottle.
- Please could you check that all personal belongings have labels.
- We have started giving reading records with books to read at home. It would be great if you could read daily with your children and leave a comment in their reading record. This will be very helpful and is a way of promoting reading outside of school.
Next week:
English: we will continue using the book Journey but will shift our focus to poetry https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AoIA9DebV70.
Maths: we will be continuing addition, learning to bridge 10.
PE: in PE, we will be focusing on personal skills and developing our footwork skills.
You can practise these by logging in with your class account: https://real.jasmineactive.com/home/themes/bike. Please ask us if you are unsure of the login details.
