Well, what can we say?! Another truly wonderful week in Year 2! The children have been working very hard, learning brilliantly and having a lot of fun.

During English we have been composing our own poems based on ‘The Magic Box’ by Kit Wright. We thought carefully about what we would put in our own boxes before developing the imagery we were creating using adjectives to add detail. We followed the structure of the poem and the children were extremely proud of the poetry they produced.

During Maths we have been working on fractions. We began by finding parts of a whole before examining equal and unequal parts. We then learnt how to find halves and quarters. The children really enjoyed investigating fractions throughout the week. Here is one of our activities from this week to have a go at: Sheet

Next week

English: we will be learning the fable of ‘The Boy Who Cried Wolf’ using a story map and actions. Here is a copy of the story map so the children can practise at home next week: Story Map

Phonics: we will be exploring different ways of spelling the <z> sounds ( z as in zip, ze as in maze, zz as in jazz, se as in wise and s as in trees)

Maths: we will continue to work on fractions. We will focus on thirds before looking at unit and non unit fractions

Have a wonderful, sunny weekend.

Warmest wishes,

The Year 2 Team.
