A Fantastic Week in Year 2!
What an exciting and productive week we’ve had in Year 2! We’ve dived headfirst into our history project on Trailblazers, exploring the lives of remarkable individuals who have made a lasting impact on the world.
We began by learning about the amazing life and work of one of the greatest paleontologists of all time—Mary Anning. She is the first on our list of super Trailblazers, known for her incredible fossil discoveries which have shaped our understanding of prehistoric life. Next, we explored the adventurous journey of Christopher Columbus, another trailblazer who made groundbreaking discoveries in his time, traveling across oceans and changing the way people viewed the world. This sparked a wonderful discussion in class: What does it mean to be a trailblazer? Are you a trailblazer? We are encouraging the children to think about how they can be pioneers in their own way—by being curious, courageous and willing to make a difference.
In English, our budding authors have been hard at work! This week, the children became illustrators for their very own writing projects. They are taking the time to thoughtfully illustrate their stories and it’s been incredible to see how these illustrations are helping to inspire even more creative ideas. Next week, we will delve into the writing process, as their illustrations will come to life through their words. We’re looking forward to seeing their marvelous stories unfold!
In Maths, we’ve continued reviewing place value, building on our understanding through practice with the part-part-whole model. The children have been reinforcing their skills in partitioning numbers and writing number words, especially focusing on mastering those tricky words ending in “-teen” and “-ty”. In Phonics, we’ve been revisiting the new sound /ae/, reviewing it in different word forms. The children have been practicing their spelling through dictations and spelling quizzes, helping them to reinforce their knowledge and apply what they’ve learned in both reading and writing.
It’s been an action-packed week filled with learning, creativity and fun. We are so proud of how engaged and enthusiastic the children have been. We can’t wait to see what next week brings!
