What an exciting and enriching week we’ve had in Year 2! The children have thoroughly enjoyed learning about the Fens and their fascinating history. They were particularly intrigued by the crucial role that dykes played in draining the land, making it suitable for farming and settlement. As part of our learning, the children put their knowledge into action by creating their own model dykes. This hands-on activity not only reinforced their understanding of how these structures work but also sparked their creativity and problem-solving skills.

In STEM, the children have been learning all about germination and what plants need to grow. To put their learning into practice, we have started an experiment where we will observe how beans grow under different conditions. Some will be grown without water, others without sunlight and we will compare the results over time.
In English, we have been developing our skills in writing instructions and have now finished illustrating our steps. With our drawings complete, we have started writing the instructions ensuring they are easy to follow and well-structured. During this process, we have also been focusing on the use of singular and plural nouns, as well as prepositions of place, movement and time, to make our instructions clear and precise.
In Maths, we have been consolidating our understanding of arrays and making important connections to multiplication and division. The children have worked hard to recognise patterns and apply their knowledge in different ways. We have also started exploring doubling, using practical activities to help reinforce this concept.
In Phonics, we focused on the /g/ sound, learning how the same sound can be spelled in different ways.
