What an exciting week it has been in Year 2!
As part of our geography project on the Fenlands and the Kenyan grasslands, children embarked on an exciting journey to Africa, the second-largest continent, to explore the fascinating country of Kenya. They discovered key facts about the nation, including its location, population and languages, gaining a deeper understanding of its rich culture and unique geography.”
In STEM, the children have been closely observing and recording the progress of our bean experiment. There was a real buzz of excitement as they discovered that some of the beans were really growing, with the tallest measuring an impressive 30 cm! Children consolidated their learning by applying their knowledge in the end-of-unit assessment. This provides an opportunity to revisit key concepts such as pollination, seed dispersal and germination.
In English, the children have been exploring the crucial skills of editing and proofreading. Our focus has been on refining their understanding of punctuation, capitalisation and the correct use of apostrophes for contraction. Additionally, we have revisited some common exception words, helping the children to accurately spell these often tricky words.
In Maths, the children have been continuing to practice and consolidate their knowledge of measurement. This week, our focus has been on comparing objects using terms such as ‘longer than’, ‘shorter than’, ‘taller than’ and ‘equal to’. Next week, our attention will shift to the topic of money. The children will begin to explore the value of different coins and notes, as well as how to recognise, count and combine amounts. This will help to build their confidence in handling money and understanding its real-world applications.
In Phonics, we focused on the /f/ sound, learning how the same sound can be spelled in different ways.
