What a wonderful week we have had in Year 2! The children have utterly wowed us with the way they have embraced learning, challenged themselves and worked so hard! We hope the children are proud of the super learning they have done.
In English, the children have launched into their new project which is creating an anthology of poems to celebrate Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday. We started by reading as writers and explored a range of poetry- we were very inspired by what we read and we have made notes about some of the features we want to include in our poetry. The children loved visualizing language and they drew incredibly detailed pictures of the imagery conjured up by different phrases. We rounded off the week by writing our own poems based on the structure ‘If I were a ____, I would ____.’ were amazed bu the thoughtful writing the children produced and they are so excited to share these at Family Friday.
In Maths, we built on our exploration of arrays by investigating dividing in different ways. Because the children worked so hard to acquire the language of rows and columns, they were able to translate this into division (and multiplication) equations. We finished the week by exploring doubling. Here are some practice sheets to explore at home: Sheets for blog
In STEM, we have continued our unit on Plants.
In Geography, we explored the physical features of the fenlands.
In Art, we created mood boards of warm and cool colours. We created our own shades by mixing different media together and we loved naming our catalogue of shades!
Next week
English: we will continue our poetry unit. We will generate vocabulary inspired by the natural, create ideas hearts, pick our five inspirations for our poetry anthologies and create our front covers.
Maths: we will be starting to explore measurement
Geography: we will be exploring the different uses of land in the fenlands.
Art: we will be creating our animal collages, drawing on our observational reference images and our colour exploration.
Thank you for a wonderful week. Have a restful and relaxing weekend.
Warmest wishes,
The Year Two Team.
