This week we have been developing our descriptive writing and focusing on what happiness means for all of us. We were inspired by the book The Jar Of Happiness and wrote happiness poems, decorated jars and practised reading these out loud!
We wonder if any children will be courageous enough to read their poems out loud to you?
We worked on expanded noun phrases and using conjunctions. The main ones we challenged ourselves to use are: when, if, that, because, after, while.
You can practise identifying expanded noun phrases here: Expanded noun phrases activity
In Maths, we explored different ways of solving addition equations. You can practise these here: Independent – Maths Journaling
We started learning in the Learning Street and explored 60s fashion, music and key ideas.
Phonics: we have been looking at different sounds for the spelling ou. Some of the words we practised are: group, soup, fund, cloud, touch, trouble.
As you all know the spelling challenge has started. We want children to see this as a positive experience and to have fun learning new words. You could try writing the spellings on post it notes and putting them around the house. This could become a game of touch the spelling or you could challenge each other to use it in a sentence.
Next week:
We will be continuing addition with two digit numbers and learning about regrouping.
In English, we will be focusing on understanding emotions in stories, developing our oracy skills and descriptive writing. The book we will be reading is The Heart and The Bottle by Oliver Jeffers.
Please can all children bring their full PE kits or they will not be able to take part in PE lessons.
Children can now practise their times tables on https://ttrockstars.com/. They will all receive logins in their reading records. We are focusing on the 2 times tables this term but by the end of the year our aim is to know the 2s,5s,10s.
