A huge well done to all out year one children for their wonderful stamina for learning!

In English, we are revisiting our wonderful traditional stories with a twist! The children have already written their unique versions of these classic tales, adding exciting changes to characters, settings or plots. Now, we are reviewing and polishing these creative retellings.

We are focusing on making sure each story includes essential elements of traditional storytelling. First, we are ensuring each story starts with a classic opening (like “Once upon a time…” or “Long, long ago…”) and ends with a traditional closing (such as “…and they lived happily ever after”).

Next week, we are going to focus on the use of repeated phrases and descriptive language.

Phonics: Phonics resources – review ie and ar

In Maths: we’re focusing on counting in 2s, 5s and 10s, with extra practice in counting by 3s. Through hands-on activities like exploring patterns on number charts. Maths W5 worksheets

In Stem:  our focus was flexibility and rigidity. Children explored different materials to see which were flexible and which were rigid. They began by predicting the flexibility or rigidity of each item, then conducted a “fair test” by bending each material to observe its properties. This hands-on experiment allowed them to confirm whether their predictions were correct, helping them understand material properties through direct observation and testing. Key messages

Reading books: please make sure these are returned in the morning of Thursday 8th October. The phonics books relate to the spellings we have been learning in class so please use them for any spelling practice alongside the reading. Your child will be given their new phonics book once the old one is returned.

PE days:  Please ensure your child has a complete kit that includes: black or navy blue shorts and jogging bottoms or leggings as the weather is now turning colder, a plain white t-shirt, navy blue jumper or hoodie and trainers.
