What a wonderful week! We have been very impressed with the positive attitude to learning shown by the children in Year 2 this week. We have been working hard to produce our first ‘Writing Showcases’ of the year: we imagined that we had found a magical compass that took us to strange and fantastical lands- truly wonderful work!

In Maths we have been working on bridging 10: we looked at equations such as 8 + 9 and tried to make them ‘friendlier’ by targeting 10 (8 + 9 = 8 + 2 + 7).

During History we explored historical sources that gave us clues about the lives of Mary Anning and Christopher Columbus. We then used our new knowledge to help us write a fact file: we were very pleased with the way that the children applied their new learning.

Next week:

English: we will begin our adventure stories unit by exploring the story ‘Super Happy Magic Forest: Slug of Doom’ by Matty Long

Maths: we will consolidate the skill of bridging 10

Phonics: we will explore the spellings of /ie/

History: we will examine and ask questions about sources relating to Neil Armstrong and Mae Jemison

Geography: we will use the points of a compass to plot a route on a treasure map

Art: we will create a flower collage in the style of Georgia O’Keeffe

Thank you Year Two for a super week. We hope that you all have a relaxing and enjoyable weekend!

Warmest wishes,

The Year Two Team.
