What a wonderful week we’ve had in Year 2! It’s been full of vibrant learning experiences and it’s so rewarding to see how the children are actively embodying our school values each day. One of the highlights has been our Forest School, where the children immersed themselves in the natural world, their hands busy molding clay into the shapes of various forest creatures they imagined and observed. From hedgehogs to birds and even a wild boar, one we’re lucky enough to share our beautiful forest with :-), each creation reflected both their creativity and their deepening connection to nature.

In English, we are revisiting our wonderful traditional stories with a twist! The children have already written their unique versions of these classic tales, adding exciting changes to characters, settings or plots. Now, we are reviewing and polishing these creative retellings.
We are focusing on making sure each story includes essential elements of traditional storytelling. First, we are ensuring each story starts with a classic opening (like “Once upon a time…” or “Long, long ago…”) and ends with a traditional closing (such as “…and they lived happily ever after”).
Next week, we are going to focus on the use of repeated phrases and descriptive language.
In Maths: we’re focusing on counting in 2s, 5s and 10s, with extra practice in counting by 3s. Through hands-on activities like exploring patterns on number charts. Maths W5 worksheets blog
In Stem: our focus was flexibility and rigidity. Children explored different materials to see which were flexible and which were rigid. They began by predicting the flexibility or rigidity of each item, then conducted a “fair test” by bending each material to observe its properties. This hands-on experiment allowed them to confirm whether their predictions were correct, helping them understand material properties through direct observation and testing.
