We have had a fantastic week in Year 2 (and some snow to top it off!)
In English, we have been focusing on instruction writing. We created Dream Jars, inspired by the BFG. Then, we spent time composing instructions telling other children how to make one. Ensuring that we are using exciting adjectives and exploring abstract nouns, imperative verbs and rhetorical questions! Attached are some sheets looking at imperative verbs (Imperative Verbs)
In Maths, we have been looking at addition with regrouping. We started by looking at representing this using dienes and pictorial representations. Later on in the week, we moved on the column method. We have been encouraging the children to experiment with different methods, to increase their mathematical confidence. Attached are a few questions for your children to practice at home (Addition with regrouping)
In Topic, we have continued to explore materials in Science. The children have been using their scientific skills of enquiry and their new knowledge to make predictions about the properties of materials. In Art, we have been exploring pencil drawings, concentrating on different techniques such as: cross hatching, dotting, shading and continual line drawing. We have also been exploring friendship in PSHE, looking at the qualities of a good friend.
Next Week:
In English, we are going to be working on a longer piece of story writing based on a Rainforest. At the beginning of the week, we are going to focus on emersion and enhancing vocabulary. By the end of the week, the children will be writing a story based on an image. We cannot wait to be blown away by their creativity!
In Maths, we will be continuing with addition with regrouping. We will be exploring addition using larger numbers and building confidence in multiple methods. We will also introduce subtraction with regrouping (e.g. 42 – 36).
In Topic, we will be continuing to delve deeper in to our materials topic, with a focus on applying our knowledge. In Music, we will be exploring the impact music has on our feelings.
