What a brilliant week we have had in Year 2 – lots of dedicated, creative and passionate learners this week!

This week in English, we have been focusing on the book ‘Tell me a dragon’ by Jackie Morris. We have used this book as inspiration to focus on adjectives, noun phrases and writing powerful descriptions. We started by looking closely at the different dragon in the book, focusing on the imagery created. Then disaster struck! A dragon was seen flying in Eddington (I am sure the kids would love to tell you about it). We had to use our brilliant vocabulary to think about what the dragon looked like and where it lived. We have done some brilliant pieces of descriptive writing based on this and even created dragon passports!

In Maths we have been exploring addition and subtraction, with an emphasis on regrouping. We have been thinking about what ‘regrouping’ means and are becoming brilliant at spotting when it is needed. To apply our skills, we have been working on a variety of problem solving activities.

In Topic, we have continued to learn about Richard II. We discussed what it means to be King and started to look at how historians gather information. Using a variety of historical sources, we explored Richard II in depth, inferring clue from the sources we had.

Next week:

Arts week comes to UCPS next week – we know the kids are as excited as we are. Using the Hajanga song as an overarching theme, we will be spending the week exploring a variety of Art subjects, with specialist teachers leading numerous sessions. We will be focusing on rhythm and body procession in Music and exploring nature in Forest school sessions. English and Art are going to be closely linked – we will be creating art and poems based on the sky and the ocean. We cannot wait to see the learning that the children produce!

Have a lovely weekend,

Year 2 team
