Yet another fun filled week in Year 2! We are super proud of our children and their thirst for learning!
Summary of learning
In Maths, we continue with our learning of ten more and ten less ensuring that we are adding and subtracting from the 10s and not the ones. Revisit this week’s maths. Wk 3 Maths Adding and Subtracting 10s – resources
In English, we have now completed all the pictures for our picture books and are excited to start our writing next week! They are looking super colourful and inviting!
Our grammar focus has been the suffix -‘s for singular possessive nouns. For example: Megan’s, the girl’s, the child’s, my mum’s.
In our history lessons, the children have been exploring the life and times of King Henry VIII, exploring the concepts of power and authority during his reign. They had great fun acting out the story of King Henry the VIII and his six wives. We also learnt the song which helped us remember the story. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rTdTDCRKvvM
In STEM, our focus continues on identifying an object’s properties and selecting them for a specific purpose, asking scientific questions and writing instructions. We also discussed and agreed what kind of experiment we want to carry out next week and what is needed to make it fair.
In Phonics, our focus sound this week is /v/ and we have been recapping the /er/ sound. As ever, please read with your child daily using both the decodable books and reading for pleasure books. Phonics books were changed today and will be changed again on Thursday 5th February.
In art children had great fun using primary colours to create a colour wheel of skin tones for their portrait. These are looking really fantastic. Next week we will add more detail.
