What a joyful first week of learning. Our topic this half-term is Carnival and we will be exploring different cultures, music and dance.

In English, we discussed all the countries we are from. We explored the United Kingdom and then chose a country to focus on that celebrates Carnival to describe. We are going to be writing non-chronological reports next week using the following features:

  • present tense
  • technical vocabulary
  • third person
  • facts and detail
  • headings and sub-headings

Here are some examples of non-chronological reports if you want to ask the chidlren to read them and label the features.Examples of non chronological reports about countries

In Maths, we reviewed time and focused on telling the time to o’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to.

Independent maths sheet It would be great if you could do daily practise of this at home as children need the time to consolidate their learning.https://www.visnos.com/demos/clock

In PE, we are learning about Carnival dances and practised moving to music and even some steps of salsa.

In Science, we learned about the needs of plants and made our own scarecrows to protect our allotment from insects and birds.

Important notices:

All children need to bring sun hats, cream and water bottles please otherwise they will not be able to play outside.

As highlighted in the newsletter, please can we have your help in gathering  coloured A4 card and sring  for our Year 2 STEAM learning as well as resources for art:

  • Corrugated cardboard
  • Cardboard envelopes (no labels on them)
  • Black bed sheets
  • Metal frame backpacks

If you could bring these items to the class by Friday 17th  that would be great.

We have Sports day coming up on the 24th June, children will need to wear a shirt of a specific colour which we will let them know next week.

We will be starting relationships and sex education next week. This is an important part of children’s learning teaching them how to stay safe and healthy.
