This week we really delved into our topic by getting to know a lot about the Beatles and the culture of the 60s.

In English we wrote our own non-chronological reports about the Beatles full of interesting facts. We can’t wait to celebrate these with each other next week as all Year 2 classes will be showcasing their 60s learning, including their dances and songs.

In Maths, we learned how to subtract 2-digit – 2-digit number. For this it really helps if children are confident with their number bonds to 10 and 20 so please keep practising these at home https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button.

We used the strategy of partitioning the subtrahend and then subtracting the tens and the ones. Here is the sheet if you want further practise: Blog maths sheet

As a school, we also took part in a Times Tables Rock Stars challenge practising our 2s,5s and 10s. It is great to see children’s enthusiasm for this so we encourage them to keep practising. You can now also login to number bots with you child’s TT Rockstars account:

Phonics: we practised words with same spelling different sound like lines, eggs, shoes /z/ and bricks, cliffs, papers /s/.

We also learned the different spellings of the <l> sound: /l/, /ll/, /el/. /il/, /le/ and /ol/ in words like lips, sell, medal, camel, pencil, apple, petrol

NEXT WEEK NOTICES:

Next week we will be celebrating children’s Mental Health Week. This will be a busy week full of assemblies, stories and creative learning to reflect on how we grow and change.

Here are some ideas to discuss these important topics at home: https://www.childrensmentalhealthweek.org.uk/parents-and-carers/

In English, the children will be creating their own stories and for this we would need a picture of them as a baby and a picture of them as a child.  These could be with family or alone, anything that they would like. It would be great if all children could bring this in by Wednesday 9th February so they can then use these in their English learning on Wednesday. The children will be sticking the pictures so please do not send pictures you would like back. Thank you in advance.

We are looking forward to the Family Zumba charity event on Thursday 10th at 4.30PM. The Year 2 teachers will all be taking part so we look forward to seeing many of you dancing virtually.

On Friday 11th children can come dressed in blue for our diversity celebration.
