Wow! What a wonderful week we have had in Year 2! The children have engaged really well with all the Arts activities on offer this week. These are some of the activities we enjoyed through the week:

Art- We would like to thank Mrs Smith for our fantastic art sessions in the art room- we really enjoyed our time in these sessions! The children loved making and decorating a paper mache bird to join the flock on display in the dining hall. We also created mixed media abstract artwork in response to different types of ocean- this stunning artwork is currently on display on the classroom windows for Skylarks, Swifts and Robins.

Poetry- The children were keen to explore images and video clips of different types of ocean- we were particularly drawn to tranquil tropical oceans! The children responded to the different oceans with adjectives and powerful imagery and added these to our poetry sacks. These helped us write beautiful poetry based on the theme ‘Recipe to make an Ocean’- we are very proud of the poetry on our classroom windows!

Music- We were delighted to welcome Marc from ‘Dragon of the North’ for our music workshops. We explored pulse, body percussion and song writing in our sessions.

Forest School– The children loved creating bird houses, nests and a bird cage made from willow during our Forest School- a huge thank you to Mrs Khan for these sessions.

Next week for n Wednesday 30th June we are having our Sports Day events- please can children all have a PE kit, suitable footwear and water bottles in school for this day. Look out for photos from Sports Day on next week’s blog! Our other learning next week includes:

English- We are returning to our dragon theme based on the book ‘Tell me a Dragon.’ We will be exploring collective nouns and creating dragon inspired poetry for our class anthologies.

Maths- We are using our knowledge of the 2, 3, 5 and 10 times tables to solve multiplication and division problems- lots of reasoning and logical thinking!

Topic- During our History lessons we will be exploring sources and artefacts relating to King Richard II and learning about the different parts of a castle.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

During the course of next week we will be delivering three SRE lessons. For more information please see the parent/carer information slides SRE Year 2

Thank you all for a super week,

The Year 2 Team.
