In Year 2 this week, we have been hoppier than ever!
As part of our English learning, we have been reading the story, ‘The Ugly Five’ by Julia Donaldson. We have been using the book, as well as our knowledge of animals native to the Kenyan Grasslands, to write our own riddles describing these animals.
In Maths, we have been focusing on measurement, specifically exploring length, width and height in centimetres and metres. We even had the chance to build our own toys out of lego, using our knowledge of centimetres to then measure our toys and compare the heights with other children’s toys. Example of Maths (Measurement) 27.3
For our PSHCE, we concluded our unit on drug education, learning about different types of household items and what can be hazardous and what can be safe.
In PE, we have been continuing our work on balancing skills with a partner.
We concluded our week with a special Easter parade around the inner circle, where we got to show off our wonderful Easter hats and bonnets.
First week back after the Easter break (week commencing Tuesday 18th April 2023):
English: we will be exploring the collection of poems ‘Cherry Moon’ in order to achieve the writing outcome of creating our own haiku poems.
Maths: we will be learning about money.
Phonics: we will explore the spellings of /ow/.
Project: we will begin our exciting new project, which will be focused on DT and coding skills.
Well done to all of the children for another fantastic term of learning – only one term left of Year 2! Wishing you all an egg-cellent Easter break.
Very best wishes,
The Year 2 Team.
