Year 2 have had a brilliant week back!
We have been impressed with the enthusiasm and hard work that the children have brought to all of their learning.
Our new topic this half term is ‘Bean to Stalk’. We have enjoyed exploring this topic and have started to get our class allotment beds ready for seeds in the next few week. Year 2 also did a brilliant job identifying and removing weeds for the allotment – it was great to see so many passionate gardeners!
In English, we have been looking at instructions and imperative verbs. We started by looking closely at seed packets and identifying the key features. Using our time in the allotment as inspiration, the children then created their own imaginary plant and created instructions of how to plant them.
In Maths, we have been exploring 2-step word problems. We have been recapping our addition and subtraction and the children enjoyed the opportunity to challenge they mathematical thinking.
In Topic, this week we focused on Geography. We have been looking at maps and discussing what they show. The children then created a map of the classroom and used this to uncover hidden objects.
Next week:
In English, we will be looking a newspaper reports. We will start by exploring the key features and build up to writing our own report the next week.
In Maths, we are going to be focusing on increasing number fluency. We will be looking at number facts and now we can apply these to our learning.
In Science, we will be creating our own experiments to answer the question: ‘What do plants need to grow?’.
In Geography, we are continuing to explore maps. We will be focusing on naming and locating the countries and counties of the United Kingdom.
We cannot wait to see the brilliant learning next week,
Year 2 Team
