Well done to all the children for sports day! Everyone took part in a friendly and courageous way and we are proud of all the Year 2.
We has had a very busy but wonderful week in Year 2! We have been impressed with the children’s passion, creativity and determination in all of our learning.
In English, we have continued to look at non-chronological reports. We have been focusing on editing and publishing. We started the week by exploring what it means to be a good editor and then started to edit our own work. We have also been working on homophones and joined up handwriting.
In Maths, we have been exploring shape and measure. We have been looking at length, weight and volume and comparing these. We started by exploring using different types of measurement resources (rulers, scales and jugs) to measure different objects around the room. We then focused on comparing different measurements and looking at appropriate ways of measuring.
In PE, we have continued learning about Carnival dances and practiced moving to music and even some steps of salsa. We built on our learning from last week by adding in mirroring routines and exploring with different speeds.
We have been lucky to have two art sessions this week! We have been preparing for our carnival and created costumes based on patterns in nature. We know the children cannot wait to show you these – they are amazing!!
In RSE we have been learning about how to stay healthy, how we change and grow and about different types of families.
English: We will be focusing on sentence level learning. Looking at a variety of ways to improve our writing.
Maths: we are going to continue looking at measurement, with a focus on length.
In Science: we will continue to look at food chains.
All children need to bring sun hats, cream and water bottles please otherwise they will not be able to play outside.
As highlighted in the newsletter, please can we have your help in gathering coloured A4 card and string for our Year 2 STEAM learning as well as resources for art:
- Corrugated cardboard
- Cardboard envelopes (no labels on them)
- Black bed sheets
- Metal frame backpacks
If you could bring these items to the class ASAP.
We will be continuing our learning on Sex and Relationships next week. This is an important part of children’s learning teaching them how to stay safe and healthy.
