What a wonderful week we have had in Year 2! The children have utterly wowed us with the way they have embraced opportunties to learn this week. A definite highlight has been the launch of OPAL lunch times, the glorious weather has been the backdrop for wonderful opportunities for play for children throughout the school. All in all the children have embraced learning, challenged themselves and worked so hard! We hope the children are proud of the super learning they have done.
In English, the children were delighted with the opportunity to write not one, not two, but THREE bonus poems. They wrote poems using sensory details, played with verbs and enhanced nouns with rich adjectives. Next week, we will be proof reading and publishing our favourite poems.
In Maths, we built on our exploration of measure, this week concentrating on capacity. We used measuring cylinders and jugs to remind ourselves of full and empty because exploring the scales in more detail. We have learnt to accurately read scales with different intervals, drawing on our knowledge of place value. We then began to consider when millilitres or litres would be more appropriate- would you measure the capacity of a cup of tea in litres? What about a bucket- would litres or millilitres be more efficient? Here are some practice sheets to explore at home: Maths for Blog
In STEM, we have continued our unit on Habitats.
Next week
English: we will continue our poetry unit. We will proof read and publish our favourite poems.
Maths: we will be explorig 2D shapes.
Computing: we will meet ‘Dash’ (our new robots) and find out what it can do!
STEM: we will be continuing our unit on habitats.
As the weather is getting warmer, please remember to send your child to school with a hat and suncream!
Thank you for a wonderful week. Have a restful and relaxing weekend.
Warmest wishes,
The Year Two Team.
