Summary of learning

In maths, we had fun playing shopping games where we learnt how to add two-digit numbers when crossing a ten and used dienes to support us. Feel free to revisit this week’s sheets to consolidate learning. Maths Sheets – adding 2 digit numbers

In English, we continue to create our stories, focusing on questions like – how does your character talk? What prepositional language could you craft into your writing? Next week we finish our booklets and will start to edit.

Phonics- we continued to learn the new sound <v>   <vv>   <ve> and review <er> and <oe>

Our grammar focus has been the suffix -‘y meaning full of or characterised by. For example: shiny, runny, glittery.

In our history lesson, the children have been comparing the reign of King Henry VIII and King Charles III. They learnt the terms absolute and constitutional monarchy. You could join your child in some role play, taking turns to act out these terms.

In STEM, our focus is materials and their properties. This week we investigated which was the best waterproof material, we hypothesized/predicted and recorded our results to compare and conclude.

In Phonics, our focus sound this week is /v/ and we have been recapping the /er/ sound. As ever, please read with your child daily using both the decodable books and reading for pleasure books.

Phonics books will be changed on Friday 7th February.

In art children used oil pastels to design their royal outfits for King Henry the VIII and Queen Elizabeth I. They learnt various techniques to ‘build n blend’ colours to create texture, before going onto use the hard fine end of a paintbrush to scrape or scratch patterns into the costumes. This lesson was messy yet magical!
