We have had a busy (but short) week that has been jam packed with super learning. Look at some of our beautiful beetles that we created in our Art lessons this week! During Art we completed our minibeast sculptures by adding details using paint. The children were incredibly focused in their Art sessions and created some stunning sculptures. We continued to be inspired by ‘Ossiri and the Bhala Mengra’ during our English lessons and we composed our own instructions about how to make our instruments. We included specific features of instructions including time connectives and imperative verbs. Then we added greater detail using subordinating conjunctions (because, if, that) and adverbs. During Maths we explored the world of shapes. We made 2D shapes and 3D shapes using sticks (super engineering and problem solving!) The children were able to talk about the properties of their shapes using terminology such as vertex, vertices, sides, edges and faces. Here are a couple of the sheets we used this week: Maths sheets¬†¬†

Next week:

English: we are going to be focusing on sentence level work including writing different sentence types (command, statement, question and exclamation)

Maths: we will continue to explore the properties of 3D shapes

Phonics: we will be working on the /d/ sound /d/ as in dog, /dd/ as in puddle and /ed/ as in looked

Geography: we will be using our knowledge around the physical and human features of the Kenyan Grasslands to plan our own (imaginary!) trip.

Thank you Year 2 for all of your brilliant learning this week!

Warmest wishes,

The Year 2 Team.
