It may have been a four day week but we have still fitted in a lot of learning and activities. In particular, we marked International Day of the Child on 20th November and talked about their enshrined rights.
In maths, we have progressed onto number bonds to 100 and how to use our related facts (number bonds to 10) to help us. If your child is not yet secure in their number bonds to 10 (4 + 6 = 10) and within ten (4 + 3 = 7) please support this at home through regular use of Numbots and Hit the Button (Topmarks). We will now move on to addition and subtraction.
In English, the children have published their transition booklets which will help prepare the current year one children for their move to year two later this year. Next week, we will start a new unit of writing which is linked to our geography project. The children will write a fact file about the Houses of Parliament. This will be an opportunity to learn about an important British Landmark and how it is connected to the British values of democracy and the rule of law.
In geography, the children have been learning about some key London landmarks. Can they name the nation’s tallest building? Do they know how many rooms Buckingham Palace has? What is the river that runs through London called? Next week, we will develop map reading skills by learning to read a grid reference.
