What a great week of learning we had in year 1. Teachers and learning coaches were really amazed with all your hard work this week.

This week we have been very busy learning about happiness, multiples of ten, patterns, stretchy materials and ways to be a good friend!

In Maths this week we have been making progress in counting in 10s. we introduced the hundred square to the children to help then with their counting and also we have been making groups of ten. We also challenge the children with questions like ‘Would you swap a 10p con for ten 1p coins?’

In English this week we continued to read the book ‘The Jar of Happiness’ by Ailsa Burrows and we have created beautiful poems in a Jar, but this time sharing the happiness of our family members.

In Phonics we have learn about the different spelling of the sound /ou/ in words like brown and loud.

In Art we have been learning about primary, secondary and complementary colours. We also created beautiful pictures of patterns inspired in the 60s. Check some of the children’s work in the art room display.

Next week:

English: we will read the story ‘ The heart and the Bottle’ by Oliver Jeffers and we will learn about problems in stories and how problems can make us feel.

Phonics: we will learn about the sound /oo/ and its different spellings.

Maths: we will continue learning about multiples of 10 and how can we represent it.

Thank you for your great effort and attitude towards learning this week.
