We have had a fun-filled week immersing ourselves in the depths of the rainforest, creating our own original stories about a family who have moved there. We have also begun talking about holidays that we celebrate with our families and the special activities we like to do together.
Next Week:
In English we will continue working on our capital letters, finger spaces and full stops as we engage in a range of challenges linked to our topic.
Topic will focus on gifts and link this to the Christian story of the nativity and the gifts that were given by the Three Kings. We will also explore some other special traditions that are celebrated in other religions and cultures at this time of year such as the Jewish celebration of Hanukkah.
In Maths we will reinforce our work on augmentation last week and the use of a number track in this process. For example, if we look at the equation 5 + 6 = ?, we start on the 5, make 6 jumps and we can find our answer but we would use the stem sentence: “First I had 5, then I added 6 more, now I have 11.”
In Phonics we will continue to reinforce our tricky words, this week focusing on do, of, says, by, here, there, where and once through songs and games.
PE will wrap up our focus on balance and safety specifically on dynamic balance to agility through jumping and landing. Next term we will focus on static balances through sitting and holding particular stances as well as more dynamic skills such as balancing on a line. Here is our weekly PE Challenge for the children to do at home.
