Dear parents and careers,

We have had yet another fantastic week in Year 1. The children are thoroughly loving becoming more and more engrossed in The Great Fire of London and are blown away by the comparison between present and past London.

In English, we have been focusing on the four key people during The Great Fire of London (King Charles II, The Lord Mayor, Samuel Pepys and Thomas Farriner). The children have generated questions for these important people and answered them in role. We have been focusing on using question marks and retelling the story from the perspective of Samuel Pepys through letter writing. Letter template

In Maths, we have been adding within 20 using tens frames and a number line. We have been focusing on making 10 then adding on. Maths adding within 20

In Phonics, we have been learning different spellings for the /oo/ sounds. We have identified the -ou- spelling (as in group), the -ew- spelling (as in drew), the -oo- spelling (as in moon), the -ui- spelling (as in suit), the -ue- spelling (as in blue) and the split -u_e- spelling (as in flute) sound this week. These words would be good to practice spelling at home. Here is a phonics website with interactive games PhonicsPlay

Thank you to everyone who brought in materials. We no longer need anymore. The children are having a wonderful time creating a sensory board.

We hope you have a restful and joyful weekend.
