Wow! Another fantastic week in Year One. The children have made the grown ups in their classes very proud this week because of their super attitudes to learning.
This week we enjoyed STEM day on the 25th November. We activated our ‘engineer’ brains to help us design and make bridges that could support a collection of pebbles. We were very engaged with this learning and thoroughly enjoyed testing and tinkering as the day went on in order to our bridges as strong as possible.
During our English lessons we have been continuing to explore letter writing. We were shocked with the responses we received from the Lord Mayor about the Great Fire of London- we had no choice but to escalate our concerns to King Charles II! We remembered to include lots of noun phrases in our writing to convince King Charles II that the fire is dangerous!
In Phonics we have been learning new spellings of the /oe/ sound- we looked for the /oe/ in different words and used this new knowledge to help us write some words.
During Maths we have been exploring addition stories using the vocabulary ‘first’, ‘then’ and ‘now’. We also used our knowledge of the numbers bonds to 10 to help us solve a problem,
In our Topic lessons we have been comparing the similarities and differences between London in 1666 and London in 2021.
Next week:
English- We will be learning to write instructions using time connectives and imperative verbs.
Phonics- We will continue to work on /oe/ (boat, gold, bone, toe, snow)
Maths- We will be exploring the language involved with subtraction stories.
Topic- We will be putting the events of the Great Fire of London in chronological order.
Thank you Year One for all of your hard work this week!
The Year One Team.
