It’s Year 1 impressing all their adults with their wonderful learning this week!
This week the children have been practising a class poem, using the pattern ‘Sssh! Listen, what’s that noise? It’s the……….’ Please ask your child to recite their class poem to you. Maybe you could work together to create another verse with them.
In Phonics, we impressed our teachers by recalling Phase 3 trigraphs and digraphs. We also used these to write sentences, like ‘Sam must not just jump in the pond and get wet.’
In English, as well as reciting our class poem, we were also encouraged to write captions independently using adjectives.
In Mathematics, we have been using the comparison signs >, < and = to compare numbers. The vocabulary we used are more than, fewer than and the same as.
This week in Physical Education we focused on side steps with 180 degrees pivot. You can practise these skills by logging into your REAL PE at home account https://real.jasmineactive.com/login and try out the green skills challenges.
You can also try and challenge yourself with this 60 second at home challenge: Stand on one leg and shout out, ‘Aye, Aye, Captain!’
As always any questions regarding PE let us know.
In Science, we have started looking at the seasons and identifying what the weather is like.
In TastEd we looked at different types of cabbages – The Savoy, the Red Cabbage and the white cabbage. We focused on their texture. Some of us tried it and we enjoyed the Red Cabbage the most.
Next Week:
In Maths, we will be looking at the concept of ‘whole’ and ‘not whole.’ We will be practising the sentence stems, ‘This is a whole because I have all of it.’ ‘This is not a whole because I don’t have all of it.’
In English, we will be reading the book, ‘The Journey’ by Aaron Becker. We will be practising to write sentences using adjectives.
In PE we will be developing our balancing skills.
In Science, we will be looking at shadows and how they are formed. We will be learning this through making shadow puppets.
In Phonics, we will be working with VCC and CVCC words. We will also be reading and writing the common exception words, ‘me’ and ‘be.’
We are still in need of plastic bottles for our Science lessons.
We hope that you have a lovely weekend!
