Dear parents and carers,
The Year 1 classes have been very busy in their learning this week!
In Phonics this week, we have been focusing on the ‘er’ sound which can be spelt or, ir, or er. Please continue to read your child’s phonics book daily at home. Writing short sentences together is also great practice.
In English, we have been writing our own poems. The children worked collaboratively to generate ideas and then write a poem about a pet. We worked hard to publish our work with our best handwriting and illustrations.
During our maths lessons, we have been looking at part whole models. Children are beginning to write simple calculations independently.  Our children are getting better and better at their numberbonds.
Excitingly, we have all been outside hunting for minibeasts! We found worms, snails, ants and more living in our forest area. The children had fun drawing their minibeasts and describing their habitats.
Next week we will be thinking about the city of Cambridge. We will look at some of the features of the city and see what we can identify on a map. If you would like to do some home learning with your child over the weekend, why not have a look at a map of Cambridge or discuss some local landmarks together!
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend,
The Year 1 Team
