In English, we have been impressing our teachers by writing our own adventure stories about a little boat, who encounters a problem as it is sailing. We have used our learning from previous weeks on noun phrases, using time connectives and story language starters to make our stories exciting. Please ask us to re-tell our stories to you at home.
In Phonics, we have been learning different ways to make the ae sound. Our reading books have these sounds in them, please go through these sounds with us when we read at home, and challenge us to think of other words with these patterns.
In Maths, we have been using the part-part-whole model to make different amounts to 10. We have been using the sentence stem: If _______ is a whole, ________ is a part and _________ is a part. We also looked at making 3 parts. We have also been practising ordinal numbers (first, second, third…..)
In PE, we have been continuing to practise our balancing skills and moving in different ways. We played ‘Pop the Pirate’ and had fun balancing different items on each other. We also took part in the daily mile.
We also had our first taster of Art in the Art room with Mrs Smith and are looking forward to more lessons after half term.
After half term, in English, we will be using adjectives to describe fire, and write a poem.
In Maths, we will be deepening our understanding of numbers from 6 – 10, using the idea that these numbers are made from ‘five and a bit.’
In Phonics, we will continue to practise the ae sound.
We will also be starting our new topic ‘The Great Fire of London.’
Our teachers have been so proud of us this half term, as we have settled into the routine of Year 1.
We wish you all a safe and a relaxing half term.
