In Phonics this week, we have been learning the sounds /a/ /e/ /i/ /u/ /sh/ and /ck/ in more complex words (CCVCC words) such as drank, slump, spent, shop and sock etc. Please feel free to continue to practice these with your child by building the words together and then using them in a sentence.

English

In English this week, we wrote out new “Traction story” using the story map from last week. We have been focusing in the use of capital letters, word spaces and full stops. You can continue practice this with your child with this worksheet: capital letters and full stops

Maths

In Math this week, we have been focusing that a whole can be represented as one object. we have been practicing the sentences STEM:

This is a whole banana because I have all of it.
This is not a whole apple because I don’t have all of it.
This is not a whole apple because I only have part of it.

In Science, We have been learning the importance of rain and how it make us feel. We had a great time discussing the benefits of the rain for plants, animals and humans. Finally we created a rain gauge with plastic bottles to measure rain.

Next Week

In Phonics next week, we will finish our review of the Initial code. We will  revisit the /ch/ (chop) and /tch/ (ditch) sound.

In English next week, we will learn about poetry and we will write free verse poems about being a real superhero.

In Maths next week, we will be looking at how a whole can be represented as a group.

In Science next week, we will be learning about temperature and how to use a thermometer.
