Wow! This has been a truly wonderful week in Year 1! The children have been thinking vary carefully about the ways they could innovate or change features of the Three Little Pigs… we have been delighted with their creative and imaginative ideas. Some of their fabulous titles included:
The Three Stripy Tigers and the Big Bad Jaguar
The Three Magical Unicorns and the Deadly Dragon
The Three Fluffy Bunnies and the Big Bad Fox
The Three Adorable Kittens and the Terrifying Tiger
The children used their innovated story maps to help them retell and write their own versions of the story. We have been so proud of the effort they put into this!
During our Maths lessons, we have been comparing and ordering objects by length. We have been exploring non-standard units of measure and using cubes to measure the length of different objects.
During Science, we have been sorting animals into lots of different groups. We began by looking at their patterns and habitats before moving onto categories such as mammals and reptiles. We also explored the diets of different animals before deciding if they were herbivores, carnivores or omnivores.
Another exciting event in Year 1 this week was the multisports festival hosted by some Year 13 students from The Leys. Your children impressed these visitors with their enthusiasm and wonderful listening- well done Year 1!
Next week
English: we will be exploring the character of the Big Bad Wolf and writing the story from his perspective
Maths: we will continue exploring measure and begin to measure using standard units of measurement
Topic: we will continue to sort animals into different categories
Thank you for all of your super learning Year 1!
The Year 1 team.
