Wow! Another fantastic week in Year One. The children have continued to show their super attitudes to learning.

This week we used our ‘Scientific’ brains to test materials, and decide which ones are suitable to make an umbrella.

In English this week we learned about instructions. We listened to the story, ‘How to Wash a Woolly Mammoth’ and enjoyed acting out the different steps. We then used time connectives to tell the order of the instructions. We learnt about verbs and enjoyed playing ‘SImon Says’ and ‘Captain’s Coming.’ Ask us to tell you the instructions of how to play these games.

In Phonics we have continued to learn the /oe/ sound, in particular looking at how there are different ways to spell this sound. Challenge us to tell you how many different ways there are, and to give you some examples.

In Maths, we have been focusing on subtraction and writing these as a calculation. Click on this link for our Maths Activity  We then used this learning to write the inverse for addition and subtraction facts.

For our topic, we ordered the events of ‘The Great Fire of London’ on a timeline.

In PE we have been learning to do different floor balances. Click on this link for a challenge. Balance Time

Next week:

English- We will use the style of the book, ‘How to Wash a Woolly Mammoth’ to write our own instructions.

Phonics- We will be learning a new sound and will be given a new reading book with the sound.

Maths- We will continue to develop our recall of addition and subtraction facts through problem-solving activities.

Topic- For our topic work, we will be designing our own monument to symbolise ‘The Great Fire of London.’

Thank you Year One for all of your hard work this week!

The Year One Team.
