In Phonics, the children have been exploring the /ie/ sound and discovering its various spellings, such as ‘igh,’ ‘i,’ ‘y,’ ‘ie,’ and ‘i-e.’

In Maths, the children have been learning about making doubles and understanding the concept of equal groups through sharing and grouping.

In English, children have been introduced to the story “Found You” and have been analyzing its different parts. They have been focusing on verb suffixes for past and present tense, such as walked, eating, played, jumping, running, and more.

In DT (Design Technology), The children have started to make bags out of T-shirts, They have been practicing hand sewing.

In Computing, they have been learning to command Root, our robot friend, to create simple shapes like square and rectangles.

Next week

In Phonics we will review sounds with split digraphs. here is a video about split diagraphs

In English, we will explore the enchanting book “The Bluebird and the Robot” and encourage the children to write their own stories inspired by the book’s  pictures.

In DT, we will continue our project of making Tote bags out of T-shirts, allowing the children to showcase their creativity and practical skills.

In Computing, they will have the opportunity to code Root to draw basic shapes, further deepening their understanding of programming and robotics.

Additionally, the children will be working on their summer term learning booklets, which encompass a range of subjects, including Maths reasoning, arithmetic, reading, phonics, and Grammar. This will provide them with a comprehensive review of their learning and help them consolidate their knowledge.

Update on our reading books.

Next week, instead of a decodable book, the children will receive a variety of reading texts with a focus on split digraphs. They will also have the opportunity to practice reading ‘alien words’ which will be beneficial for their upcoming phonics screening check in June.
