Dear Parents and Carers,
We have had an amazing week in Year 1! The children have thoroughly enjoyed learning all about The Great Fire of London.
In English, we have been looking at London in 1666 and using expanded noun phrases to describe it. The children really enjoyed recreating a collage of a London market in 1666. Here are some sheets, if your child would like to describe different parts of the story The Great Fire of London English
In Maths, we have continued to focus on adding and subtracting one or two numbers, word problems and number lines. Please feel free to continue this at home Maths
In Phonics, we have been learning different spellings for the /oo/ sounds. We have identified the -ou- spelling (as in group), the -ew- spelling (as in drew), the -oo- spelling (as in moon), the -ui- spelling (as in suit), the -ue- spelling (as in blue) and the split -u_e- spelling (as in flute) sound this week. These words would be good to practice spelling at home.
Please see last week’s blog for a list of the top 100 high frequency words to practice at home.
- If you have any spare materials, please can you bring them in and give them to your child’s teacher.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Year 1 Team
