We have impressed our teachers with our learning behaviours after returning from half term….we are so enthusiastic with our learning! We have enjoyed learning some information about The Great Fire of London, and are eager to find out more.
In English, we have been inspired with the theme of fire and have written adjectives to describe it. We then watched some fireworks and wrote a recount about our experience.

In Phonics, we have continued to look at the alternate sounds of ae: ai, ea, a-e and ay. We have been learning to read and spell words with the different graphemes. Please challenge us to read or write some words with these sounds.

In Maths we have continued to look at numbers from 6 to 10 and used the sentence stem, ‘_______ is 5 and ________ more.’ For example, for the number 6 we have practised saying, ‘6 is 5 and 1 more.’ We also represented numbers on a tens frame.

In PE, we have started our new unit on ‘Moon Adventure.’ We have been practising jumping from 2 feet and landing on 2 feet, jumping from 2 feet and landing on one foot. We were also challenged to turn and jump at the same time.

We had our first Art lesson with Mrs Smith and we prepared our art portfolios. We also looked at paintings from Alfred Wallis and were encouraged to look at the detail of the boats.

In our STEM lesson, we went on a Materials Hunt to find objects made from different materials. Encourage us to do a Material Hunt at home, and we can impress you with what we know!

Next week in English, we will be learning more about the Great Fire of London, and will be writing sentences about it. We will also learn more about Thomas Farriner.

In Phonics, we will be starting the sound ee, look out for our new reading books with these sounds.

In Maths, we will be building on our learning about combining parts together to make a whole, and will write these as an expression (3+2), then move on to writing it as a calculation (3 + 2 = 5). We will also learn the names for the different parts of a calculation.

As part of our STEM session, we will be investigating materials using a magnet and will make a game. We will then write some instructions of how to play the game.

Reminders: As the weather is getting colder, we will still do outdoor PE. Please check that we have a sweatshirt and jogging bottoms to keep us warm.
